The site is currently running on the Ghost platform and I'll be working on updating it soon on the software side as well. Ghost finally came out of beta with version 1.x and there's a good bit of work to get that set up and migrate everything over to it. However 1.x and on has some great features for updating to new versions vs. the betas which were very manual (but still simpler than the beta to 1.x migration). You should not notice any downtime when the change happens.

Cake!

Carrot cake from the Spring menu at Localis in Sacramento

Food

Localis

Charles Paluda

Carrot cake to be specific...

Doesn't look like carrot cake? Well, it's a deconstructed take on it from one of our favorite restaurants in downtown Sacramento called Localis. We've probably spent way too much money there, but that's ok because the food is well worth it. If you're just getting into the "foodie" world and feeling adventurous, be sure to try the octopus which is always on the menu under appetizers. It's never chewy or crunchy.

This "cake" was awesome. The crumble was the spiced cake part. The carrot was in the two mini scoops of carrot/ginger sorbet which was amazing. The scoop in the middle was their take on the cream cheese frosting normally found on carrot cake. I have to admit I don't know what the yellow dollops or the white dust was, but together it was all great.

Photo notes...

This was shot on my iPhone 7 Plus in some pretty low light conditions with just the basic camera app and a little color, brightness and contrast correction really quick in Paint.net. Paint.net is a little freeware tool created by some undergrads as a senior project with Microsoft as their mentor in an attempt to create a replacement for MS Paint. It's a lot more powerful than MS Paint though.

Fort Bragg and Site Update

A few pictures from my recent trip to Fort Bragg and Mendocino in northern CA.
The site is officially live after transferring to a new hosting location and a revamp from its previous life as my gaming video website. Please see this post for more info on that including links to where to find that old content along with new stuff. I'm still in the process of uploading the old stuff however as of this posting.

I'm also still working on processing photos for more posts, but I thought I'd start off with a couple of photos from my birthday trip to Fort Bragg and Mendocino CA this last January 2017. These were both shot on an iPhone 7+ using ProCamera with the HDR plugin. I figure since this is my first real post I'll cover some of the other gear and software I use as well. For future posts I'll just cover the gear used for those pics.

Canon Rebel XSi

Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II

Canon EF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 III

Manfrotto tripod with ball head and quick release plate

Lowepro camera backpack

Adobe Lightroom 4.4.1

Ok, on to the pics. This first shot I was really surprised that it turned out so well. It took a little tweaking in Lightroom but most of what you see was straight out of the iPhone with the Vivid preset in the HDR plugin for ProCamera. It was taken from the balcony of our hotel the Beachcomber in Fort Bragg.

I was really impressed by this next shot. I decided to play with the black & white preset of the HDR plugin for ProCamera when I saved the picture. Out of the iPhone it turned out really good with lots of contrast between the rocks and the white water on the waves and the sky itself. A few more clouds in the sky would have really set it off but I think it still turned out really well. Not much tweaking in Lightroom for this one. This was taken while trying to find Glass Beach in Fort Bragg. We never actually found it though we were apparently just a few hundred yards from it. Oh well, there's always next time.

Well, that's it for now. Thanks again for visiting. I hope you enjoyed the pics and keep an eye out for more posts in the near future. I'm also possibly going to be adding Disqus to the site to allow comments on the blog posts. That way I can interact with you and answer any questions.

Welcome to Flyinion Films

Flyinion Films is back with a lot of changes.
Hi and welcome to Flyinion Films. If you've been here before April 2017 you've probably noticed the site looks very very different. Well, that's because there are a lot of changes coming. First, I'm still playing World of Warcraft. However, since the time when this website was originally created to host my Burning Crusade era boss kill videos, sites like YouTube and Twitch have risen as the place to be sharing things like this with a broad audience.

So, yes, this site in its original incarnation is now an outdated dinosaur. I will be moving all of the old boss kill videos to my YouTube channel. I will also eventually be adding new content to that channel once I figure out optimal settings for recording and streaming from OBS at the same time as I am now usually streaming on Twitch during raid nights.

So what's next...

So what's next for this website? Well, it's going to continue with new life as a place to showcase my amateur photography and talk about the places the pictures were taken. So you can think of it as sort of a travel blog focused on sharing photos. Expect to see lots of nature photos collected during off-roading, camping, and hiking trips. Of course you can expect there will probably be a range of content covering other locations as well.

I don't yet have a time frame for when the new content will start showing up. This is a brand new journey just a few weeks old and I'm still working out some changes on the technical side of things at this point.

Thanks...

Thanks again for visiting. Remember, if you're looking for the old "WoW" content (and continuing content now) then check out the YouTube and Twitch links. Otherwise, keep an eye out for the photography stuff in the future. There may be actual videos as well as photos. Those would be hosted on the YouTube channel and integrated into articles here on the website.
